Rededication to reach the beach again this year

This site was great for me last year. I did the Beaverton to Pacific City reach the beach challenge. It turned out to be 110 miles and my average time was 15.8 mph. Not bad for a 50 year old guy riding a cheap fitness bike from Performance Cycles and Fuji.

I’m doing it again this year. I’m hoping to improve on the time…. My 20 something neighbor did it and his time was 18.6 mph. He went with all his cyclocross buddies and road team.

Anyway, here it goes again….

Reach the Beach

Wow, what a day. I rode to the start so I actually went further than the 104 mile route. Had a headwind about the last 35 miles. That was rough. Really killed the ave speed. Lost a bit of time there and had to work a lot harder. Got sunburned but overall had a great experience. Next time I do something like that however, I’m not going to skip the first rest stops. After the first 50 miles or so, I started stopping every time for drinks and food. Definitely needed the extra fluids and calories.

I haven’t posted for a while, so I have a lot of training hours that aren’t on this site. Oh well. I made it. I feel good.

didn’t want to work as hard as I did. Went up vista to patton. The big payback was really fast descent. Got up to almost 40mph. could have went faster but a car got in my way…

RTB training - commute

ran an errand in the am and then got called into work early. Time should be faster but got caught up in traffic. Really hard to maintain speed due to start and stop urban riding. And then my commute at night. I’m just not comfortable pushing the pace when riding in the dark with lights. I can’t see the road well enough and I’m worried about cars seeing me. Doing what I can though.
